Ce portail spécifique au site est le seuil entre deux espaces d'exposition, fonctionnant comme un élément architectural qui marque la transition. Développé dans le cadre des recherches en cours du studio sur la résine à base d'huile de ricin, un polymère biodégradable créé et produit au Brésil, l'œuvre explore le potentiel formel et esthétique du matériau à l'échelle architecturale.

La pièce est composée de modules de différentes dimensions, disposés dans une composition qui évoque les contours ornementaux et géométriques caractéristiques de l'Art déco français, ici réinterprété à travers un langage matériel contemporain. Les plus petits modules, pigmentés à l'urucum, présentent une finition uniforme ; les modules intermédiaires et les plus grands incorporent des composés de café et de charbon de bois, ce qui donne des surfaces présentant une variation texturelle prononcée.

Le processus explore les réactions chimiques de la résine pendant la catalyse, des formations irrégulières moussées et brillantes aux finitions lisses, mates et contrôlées, révélant la réactivité du matériau aux variations de température, de timing et de mélange. De cette façon, le portail élargit le projet de recherche Rícino, qui depuis 2018 a cherché à élargir les limites techniques, visuelles et symboliques de la résine de ricin en tant que matière créative et langage de conception.

This site-specific portal is the threshold between two exhibition spaces, functioning as an architectural element that marks the transition. Developed as part of the studio’s ongoing research into castor-oil-based resin, a biodegradable polymer created and produced in Brazil, the work explores the material’s formal and aesthetic potential at an architectural scale.

The piece is composed of modules in different dimensions, arrangedin a composition that evokes the ornamental and geometric contours characteristic of French Art Deco, here reinterpreted through a contemporary material language. The smaller modules, pigmented with urucum, feature a uniform finish; the intermediate and larger ones incorporate compounds of coffee and charcoal, resulting in surfaces with pronounced textural variation.

The process explores the chemical reactions of the resin during catalyzation, from foamed and glossy irregular formations to smooth, matte, and controlled finishes, revealing the material’s responsiveness to variations in temperature, timing, and mixture. In this way, the portal expands on the Rícino research project, which since 2018 has sought to expand the technical, visual, and symbolic boundaries of castor resin as both creative matter and design language.
